GONE

A long toot of the klaxon,

Loud as it shatters the scenic serenity, a picture,

Garnished with the orange orb of a mellow Sun.

The engines deepened hum,

Graceful in turn as she glides over the waves,

On her quest for strange and distant shores,

Our relationship, adrift, finally free of anchor…

Memories, they’re all I have left,

Beautiful reminders of those heady days we shared,

When love was about our only care,

And we needed each other, like a nose needs breath.

They say goodbye is the saddest word,

They didn’t lie,

Heaven knows my heart breaks in silent tears,

As I watch you seek the company of new paths,

While my soul inches gradually ever closer,

To the numbness of an emotional death.
